Benefits of a Smart Thermostat
Perhaps you’re reading this and wondering why you’d want a smart thermostat installed in the first place? After all, you spent so long getting used to your current thermostat, you don’t want to learn another one.
Unfortunately, that old thermostat might not only be costing your comfort, but valuable dollars as well.
Check out these extraordinary smart thermostat benefits and make the decision to upgrade today.
1. Cost Savings
智能恒温器将会节省你的金钱。所以如何?我们ll, if your old thermostat is beginning to fail or is less than accurate, it’s possible that it’s sending the wrong signals to your system.
If your system has to work harder to cool your house because of a faulty thermostat, then you’re wasting energy.
Additionally, a smart thermostat will learn your habits and adjust accordingly, lowering your energy consumption by turning off your system when you don’t need it, and turning it on when you do.
No more leaving the house and coming home only to discover you left the ACall day.
With the Nest Learning Thermostat, you can save upwards of $140/year.
2. More Control & Better comfort
Remote app technology now puts the power of your thermostat in the palm of your hands.
Do you sometimes get cold when watching TV, but don’t feel like getting off the couch? Use the app and you can change the temperature right where you are.
Or perhaps take the scenario above. You’ve left your home and suddenly remember you left the AC on. You don’t need to turn around or deal with high electric bills.
Instead, you can turn it off from work through the app.
And that’s not all. If your thermostat is so ancient that it has levers that point to printed temperatures, there’s no real guarantee you’re getting the right temperature.
直到一小时后比你决定的too hot and have to fidget with the lever, but then it’s too cold and fidget again you must.
With a smart thermostat, you can avoid all that.
3. Easily programmable
Certainly one of the biggest frustrations of any air conditioning system is dealing with the thermostat.
Have you ever set the temperature on a thermostat, only to have that number blink at you and then disappear entirely, seemingly ignoring your request.
Only to find out later that you managed to set the temperature at 2 AM instead of right then, thereby freezing yourself in the middle of the night.
Gone are those days with smart thermostats. With simple interfaces and detailed apps, you can be sure that the temperature you set will activate as intended.
4. Email alerts
After getting a smart thermostat installation, you can setup special alerts.
If there’s something wrong with your system or your thermostat or something just isn’t working the way it should, you’ll get an email alert.
If temperatures dip or rise outside of your set parameters, the thermostat will alert you to that, too.
And if the thermostat is disconnected for whatever reason, perhaps the wifi is down or there’s a power outage, you’ll know the moment it happens.
5. Usage Reports
Perhaps the most advantageous feature for getting a handle on your energy consumption is their usage reports.
Want to see what time of day you use the most energy? Maybe you want to see just how long the air conditioner was on this month, or how many times the temperature setting changed?
It even tells you how much energy you saved compared to last month.
Where to install thermostats
You should call a licensed HVAC expert, like Precision Temperature, for all thermostat installation needs.
However, if you’re going to go at it alone, there a few guidelines that you should follow when installing your thermostat.
1. Never on an exterior wall
Exterior walls are subject to rapid fluctuations in temperature. In the summer, that wall is hotter than normal, in the winter, it’s colder.
This poses a problem because your thermostat also contains the sensor.
If the thermostat is hotter than it should be because it’s on a hot wall, then it will cause your system to run, even when it’s not needed.
The same goes for the winter. If the wall is too cold, even if the house itself is warm, the thermostat may engage your heater making your roast and constantly battle temperature fluctuation.
2. Never in a room with lots of sunlight
For the same reason above, you should never put a thermostat in a room with lots of sunlight.
Have you ever noticed that a room with lots of windows is significantly warmer than other places in the house?
Perhaps you’ve dealt with the struggle of whether you enjoy the sunshine or save money by keeping your house cool, but dark.
Rooms with sunlight are hotter than the rest of the home and could mislead your thermostat.
3. Never in an entryway
The constant opening and closing of the front door is a sure way to confuse your thermostat.
Every time the door swings wide, a gust of air washes over the device. This alters the true temperature and will give you less than accurate readings, leading to energy inefficiency.
4. Keep it centralized
The best place for your thermostat is in a central place that’s easy to access, yet away from as many elemental fluctuations as possible.
It’s also best to install the thermostat at 60″ from the floor.
Too high, and some people won’t be able to reach it, and too low and it’ll mean it’s uncomfortable to adjust.
But there are other reasons.
Hot air rises and cold air falls. If you the thermostat is too low, it read colder than your house really is. And if it’s too high, it may register as being warmer.
Specialists have determined that 60″ is the best, so stick with what has been tested and approved.
